Another elderly neighbour has a Freeview box which has problems post
30th September (BBC1 now in the 800s).
Unlike Sagem, Thomson are transmitting an update (a repeat but newer
than my neighbour has) next week so fingers crossed it will sort out
the problem.
That's quality service given how old the FDT500 is! ...

Why do some LCD TVs have a poor viewing angle and not others?

Does anyone know why the appearance of flesh tones deteriorates very rapidly
when you move only a little off centre with some LCD TVs (mainly cheaper
ones) and not others? I guess it has something to do with the structure of
different layers that make up the LCD screen, but what?
Reds go pale when you move left ...

Sagem IDT62 serial "success"

It seems there really is serial support (well sort of) on this box.
What I've discovered is...
SCART pins 14 = data ground
SCART pin 12, TV socket = data out (to PC)
SCART pin 12, Aux socket = data in (from PC)
115200 baud, 7 bits, even parity, 2 stop bits, no handshake.
Given this set up I can get two beh ...

Deteriorating quality on HD

I know this has been given passing mentions elsewhere but I might have
missed something, so here we go again.......
In my view (no pun intended) there has been a DEFINITE deterioration in the
quality of BBC HD on Sky (and am I beginning to detect a commensurate
deterioration in other otherwise superb programm ...

last night?
Contained a rigger who removed a perfectly good Antiference TC18W (albeit it
with a plastic Y splitter in the loft) and replaced it with an
