Extreme levels of interference on Medium Wave

Any idea what could cause the very high level interference in my flat? It's
not coming from me because I can switch everything off and it makes no
difference.
It's stronger than any normal signal, the sort of level of interference
you'd only normally expect if you were holding a radio right next to a TV or

DVD widescreen problem

We've got a Toshiba widescreen rear-projection TV, and an 'el cheapo'
DVD player. The problem is that when playing DVD's which are in the
4:3 format, the TV keeps switching between 4:3 and widescreen, after
the DVD has been playing for a few minutes. It seems to work OK with
widescreen discs.
So, what do people ...
