Google's new vapourware operating system
Thu, 9 Jul 2009 06:28:42 +0100
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8139711.stm
The history of large corporations announcing vapourware operating
systems is long and honourable. Epson announced 'Taxi' that made a brief
appearance and then vanished. Digital Research trumpeted their DR DOS to
the skies. Trouble is that it didn't work properly. ...

The Blame in Spain
Tue, 7 Jul 2009 19:20:54 +0100
The Costa Blanca is becoming very civilised in mid-Summer. The huns have
gone which means that one has the pick of the best seats in bars, and in
Super G supermarkets ones senses and sensibilities are unlikely now to
be assailed by a topless Greta dangling her pendulous breasts in a
freezer as she rummages ...

Bonfire of Quangoes
Mon, 6 Jul 2009 22:39:08 +0100
I recently commented at some length on the clumsily named Commission for
Architecture and the Built Environment. (Contrary to legend CABE did not
stand for Collection of
Assholes who Buggered England).
In view of its likely fate outlined in treasury's 'Bonfire of Quangoes'
of last Friday a follow up comm ...

Smoky's Bad Day
Sat, 4 Jul 2009 06:33:06 +0100
The uproar in the field beyond the hedge was frightful. The air was rent
with the harsh cries of seriously pissed off magpies. It sounded like a
squadron of them. The mystery was solved with the sudden appearance of
Smoky, our year-old Burmese cat.
He burst through the hedge with a blackbird in his mouth ...

Safe in England. Birth and Death of a Novel
Tue, 30 Jun 2009 22:59:04 +0100
Inside a copy of an ancient Richmal Cromption 'William' book bought at a
local jumble sale was a strange postcard. No picture. One one side was a
pre-printed message using what looked like a John Bull slug. It
consisted of a bald, three-word phrase: SAFE IN ENGLAND, and underneath
was a line for the sender ...
