a basic question on standard deviation and means

Hi
if I have a large series of stochastic numbers (such as from rainfall records)
and apply things such as mean an standard deviation I can find that by
subtracting one standard deviation from the average I can get a negative
number.
If this happens, does this then form an indicator that the set has very h ...

I have been looking through some annual accounts (on a Web page) and I have
found an error in a Grand Total.
There are seven subtotals but the Grand Total does not match the sum of the
seven subtotals.
