Mac Mini Ethernet slow to get going

As per subject - Mac Mini (early 2009) takes a while after booting to
get the Ethernet port and link to hub going - about 4-5 mins after
booting. I'm running Parallels on this machine _ I've noticed some kind
of network adapter is doing something - could this be the issue?
Parallels itself is not loaded on boo ...

I am sick to death with being asked to fill in a survey every time[1] I
contact a service company.
I email our telephone maintainers to ask them to change the name on an
extention, they do it. I then get a reply email with a link to a 15
question survey asking me how they performed. They sent one every time ...
