Repeated chkdsk scans at bootup

My wife's laptop (Vista home) has taken to doing repeated chkdsk scans at
boot up, usually after it has been hibernated.
If it wasn't finding anything I wouldn't mind so much but it is repeatedly
finding these orphan files (see image) so I'm guessing something is going
wrong with the hibernation process.

BIOS update messed up

Hello,
Someone pressed the power button on a Toshiba L300D laptop while the
Bios was updating.
Now we have an expensive brick.
I gather that some special jig is needed to re-flash the bios.
If that is so, or is it something I can do myself?
If not, anyone have any recommendations for a company that can do thi ...

I slopped half a cup of coffee (with sugar) over my Advent 4489. It didn't
all go directly over it but it splashed it. I dried it out and the processor
etc works ok but most of the keys on the keyboard aren't working. It's only
6 months old but of course I can't find the receipt etc for it now :-(.
