Screen freeze after Ubuntu upgrade
Sun, 15 Nov 2009 11:23:50 +0000
I've been running Ubuntu dual-booted on an Asus laptop for a couple of
years, with no problems for the first year or so. Then about 12 months
ago I started getting intermittent screen freezes, after variable
lengths of session time (but many sessions were OK, and I was busy, so I
lived with the occasional anno ...

UKFSN helpdesk response
Sat, 14 Nov 2009 21:23:47 +0000
Is anyone else getting an excruciatingly slow response to queries?
I posted one on the 26th September and - apart from the automated
acknowledgement - heard nothing. I put in a reminder on 26th October
and still haven't heard anything :(
I was asking about getting stats on my site hits. They used to provide

Linux for the elderly?
Wed, 11 Nov 2009 09:16:01 GMT
I have always considered that Linux may become more widely used as a
niche OS; my thoughts were more on specialist desktops for children, and
I have set up several machines with some success in this way.
Here is a different take:

Wed, 11 Nov 2009 00:29:05 +0000
Hi All
I have an Acer Aspire 1 netbook running Fedora 11, all has been fine
until tonight when it wanted to do a software update, something which
has gone without problems before now.
This time however the update completed with the message that one
dependency (don't remember what) couldn't be found, but ...

Blocking iPlayer
Mon, 09 Nov 2009 21:31:54 +0000
My darling children are very good at burning my 20Gb bandwidth limit in a
week. I've dealt with youtube by redirecting youtube.com in my DNS cache but
iPlayer is proving more difficult.
Anyone got a suggestion how I can limit access?

Unable to delete 'Trash' in evolution
Fri, 06 Nov 2009 10:17:46 +0000
Connecting via IMAP to our email server I'm finding that Evolution
cannot empty the 'Trash'. When I click the 'Empty Wastebasket'
option is thinks about it for a while and then nothing.
Also, it may be related, but it seems that all emails that /don't/
match to my filters are automatically deleted. They used to ...
