XP PRO re install

I did a re install of xp pro a few days ago and so many things are not
right, I might not be able to recount them.
Thunderbird will not let me access my 3 e mail accounts, nor will
outlook depressed.
USB devices are not being recognised. Scanner is giving me a tone I have
never heard before.

Anyone have any idea why my cd / DVD drive is such a bag of Sh*te. Sometimes
it will play the disc when inserted but most times you have to put it in 4
or 5 + times to get it to load. Sometimes like now it just won't read the
disc at all.

email service that sent you an SMS every time you received an email
(where the email subject was the actual text message).
Such a service would be very convenient for me to use now... does anyone

How long should Vista take to hibernate?

I've got a new laptop with Vista Business (*), an AMD Turion 2.2 GHz CPU, 3
GB of RAM and a 5400 rpm SATA hard disk.
I've noticed that it takes ages to hibernate: the screen goes blank and the
wireless light goes out within a few seconds but the laptop then spends
about 2 minutes writing to HDD before the PC ...

For some time I have had both Firefox and Thunderbird on my computer,
but when I have clicked on a link while using Thunderbird, Firefox has
locked up, after a short time of browsing, in that I can not close it
down. I have to close Thunderbird first and then Firefox.
Any ideas anyone?
