Lithium battey on mobo problem

Very old PC keeps losing Data and Time and BIOS settings. I took the
battery out and it's completely flat. As the machine is several years
old I'm waiting to get a new battery to fit. Just out of interest,
with the battery out of the mobo (pwr on of course) I measured the

As I am running out of space on drive C I added another drive, E (D is a
CD-Rom). Microsoft say that I can gain access to the space on E as though it
were on C by mounting drive E into a folder on C.

Win7, install 32 or 64 bit?

I am on the point of installing Win 7 Pro which has been sitting on my
coffee table since the 2nd. Initially I had anticipated installing the
64 bit version, but I have now learnt that an application I like I has
issues with 64 bit.
The machine has dual core AMD 64 bit 2.8 GHz CPU and 4 GB RAM on an Asus

I've used a couple of services which identify the hardware on a computer
and provide updated drivers where they are available. These include
driveragent.com, and driver genius. Both are just a little too
expensive for me to want to use them on every machine that comes my way.

I'm reading that without a registry hack, you can't install Windows 7 from
a W7 upgrade package to a clean hard disc.
If this is so, what are you legally supposed to do if at some later time
your hard disc dies? ...
